Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Philippians 4:6-8 NKJV
The last few weeks my mind has been racing. Many of the thoughts are in conflict with the word of God causing me to have to fight in order to stay in a more peaceful state of mind.
Today as I continue to struggle with keeping my mind free of the clutter I want to encourage you to do the same. Here is how I've been maintaining or should be maintaining ;)
1) Seek peace & pursue it
The Bible tells us to seek peace and pursue it (Psalm 34:14b). Sometimes this peace takes a little more work to obtain but it's possible. God is peace. Seek Him at all times. This can be through breath prayers, reading the Scripture, working on a project He gave you, taking care of family needs, journaling, or walking away from the trigger to your anxiety/negative thoughts/stress by casting those cares to God and being obedient to His response (1 Peter 5:7)...
2) Don't be discouraged
I've had moments that I've run to the word for comfort in my mind and the whole time had to fight to not be distracted by the very thoughts that drove me to Him. I felt guilty about this at first but I had to remind myself that I was going back to the safe place, His word, just as we've been directed. And although it was a struggle He still gave me a necessary word. Don't be discouraged, keep fighting and eventually your spirit being filled will allow God to breakthrough and calm your entire being. But you have to keep fighting!
3) Do something
One of the most dangerous places for an over thinking mind to be is still and silent for too long. Get out the house, clean something, engage in something that grabs your total attention, play a game, call and talk to someone you have a healthy relationship with, call to pray with someone...just don't allow your mind to have idle space for the enemies tricks to attempt to overwhelm you.
If your thoughts are worrisome and overwhelming you're not an anomaly. That's why the Scriptures address it. If you are able to live by Philippians 4:6-8 today then I believe you will decrease worry and increase in peace.
Peace is yours it's time to get it back!
