If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:8-9 NKJV
This post is for the person beating themselves up over mistakes made, over mistakes that have turned into repeated decisions, for the one feeling guilty, ashamed, and condemned.
God has a remedy for the weight that you feel and it rests in His Son, Jesus Christ. Here are a few things you need to know…
1) You aren’t alone
The reality is, in our human state we have moments where we allow our flesh to lead us. Anytime our flesh is in control we are in danger of being led away from God. But it’s not something that is only unique to you. The Bible says that all have sinned and fall[en] short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
In His infinite wisdom and love God prepared for this. He knew we would struggle, we would fall, that we would have moments of rebellion. Feeling that you are the only one unable to pull it together in an area in your life is false. And
that false notion will surely lead you into condemnation. But you aren’t condemned child of God, Romans 8:1 tells us that, and you definitely aren’t the only one who is struggling with what you are struggling with. So do yourself a favor and stop hiding from God! He wants you…flaws and all!
2) Confess for your cleansing
You don’t have to sit with the weight of sin on you. It’s far too heavy and it will cause you to stay stunted in your growth. Therefore, you have to let it go.
Be open and honest, God respects that! The word tells us He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all wrongdoing. So let Him! Go to Him in this very moment! Confess your sins to Him and receive His forgiveness.
I think the hardest part about this for most people is believing the forgiveness portion can be that quick and easy. Well it is! It might take some work to stay away from the things leading you into confession with our Savior but the act of forgiveness from God is immediate. That’s what He did on the cross way back when. Forgiveness is always waiting on us.
Confess, allow His loving forgiveness to consume you and cause you to forgive yourself as well. Even if no one around you does, remember God’s moved on…Get in that free moment with Him.
May your prayer be for God to assist you in realigning with His will for your life. You can’t live in what’s causing you stress and discontent in your spirit forever. I pray that God will change the desires of your heart to line up with His. For your strength to stand strong in the face of temptations that may arise. I pray you are able to allow God to be your strength where you are weak as the Bible declares He will be. In Jesus name, Amen.
Once you give it to Him, it’s gone! You don’t have to hold onto the weight! Receive that! It’s grace, it’s free, and it’s yours.
There are several songs that I listen to on a playlist when I’m feeling overwhelmed with guilt or condemnation…This is one of them: “Out of Hiding” by Steffany Gretzinger…I pray that it will bless all of you who may be struggling.
