Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
James 4:8 NKJV It’s late afternoon and I’m just getting to my laptop. Judging by the way I felt when I woke up this morning I knew the one mandatory thing I needed to do today was lay at the Master’s feet. There was no way around it. I was reminded of how important it is to spend real honest time in Him to be restored, renewed, refreshed, redirected, and have some goals redefined. We all have seasons of our lives where we are consistent with our quiet time with God. Then there are others where we allow distractions to pull us away from the consistency. While I was still in my word I hadn’t spent time with God the way I’m accustomed to and whenever an intimate relationship switches up you definitely feel the difference. One of the first things I told God was that I apologize for it taking so much for me to be drawn back to Him. What I meant by “so much” was all the things causing stress and exhaustion were given too much power and pulling me from
God when I should have been in His presence. These very things the enemy could use to destroy my intimacy with God (and therefore keep me from moving forward with Him) were the same things that were able to draw me closer to Him. When it became overwhelming and I had nothing left I found myself open and ready to commune with Him without my list of to-do’s guilting me into rushing Him…Including making sure I posted this blog in a timely manner.
Although I still have areas of my life that need to be decoded God and I were able to deal with one layer of my trouble. I almost felt guilty for not feeling 100% better but then I remembered there are layers to all of this. We were able to deal with my level of fear and worry this morning because I laid my requests out and just as promised in His word I received a peace that surpasses all understanding in that area (Phil 4:6-7). This gave me the ability to hear His directions a bit more clearly today. I’m grateful to serve a God that understands process better than any other! I’m grateful to serve a God that will always draw near as we draw near to Him. No matter what we do or haven’t done when we say, Daddy I need you He rushes to the rescue in the way that bests suits our true needs for that hour. That’s just how He is. I’m grateful for how He encourages and speaks but is also firm and real about every situation. The love we experience from God in our quiet times with Him surpasses anything we could ever fill that time with (people, social media, coffee, meet ups, etc). Our spirit is constantly yearning for connection with our Creator! Make sure that you spend time with Him today and everyday! He’ll give you what man can’t, He’ll provide a lasting peace only He can, and He’ll direct your paths into His perfect will. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you! God Bless! Melanie N.
