In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
- 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV
This past week I attended my god-baby's preschool graduation. Many people feel these culminating activities are a waste of breath and while I must admit, having to sit through them and every other graduation can be a task, I think it’s awesome they celebrate these little babies! I mean, why not celebrate a milestone?
Why not show a child they are on track to doing something greater that will not only benefit them but others? I was excited to support my little heartthrob on this occasion! He deserved the accolades because he worked hard and learned a lot during this school year. Just because he hasn't made it to, let's say doctoral status doesn't mean he doesn’t deserve recognition of this magnitude.
This brings me to us as adults. Just because you haven’t made it to the final destination in
Even if the task came easy to you—you really need to praise God
(Everything isn't easy or innate for everyone. That's why you have yet to see me win any singing competitions on television)
One of the greatest ways for us to encourage ourselves is by giving praise to our Creator. We must celebrate even the smallest victories in our Christian walks for a few reasons:
It's not easy to walk this righteous walk. Point blank! Good job if you’re trying and succeeding in any way!
The enemy does an outstanding job at making you feel like crap for your mistakes, moments of failure etc. Something has got to counter it.
Fulfilling our purpose in this life comes in stages. In order to remain encouraged as we face low seasons and even the high, we have to acknowledge how God is moving. Even if it's only one step forward.
Example: you used to pray once a month now you pray once a week.
Celebrate these milestones because it's strengthening your walk and preparing you for the excellence you are destined for.
Many people are frustrated, discouraged, and angry because we have these big picture, long-term goals to complete but won't celebrate meeting the mini ones in between. We are so focused on where we are going we neglect to celebrate how far we've come. Today is a great day to have a praise party for what God is doing in your life even if you have to do it alone. In everything give thanks, both the doctoral moments and the preschool moments. They are all worth something to God and the kingdom.
Encourage yourself ;)
