But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
John 4:23-24 NKJV
Last night our church hosted the final night worship service of our Summer Nights Worship Series. The entire summer has been a blessing for me watching God manifest Himself in so many different ways. Last night made a lasting impact on me for several reasons but I wanted to share a little of what I shared last night with you all today. I hope it will encourage you a little or a lotta bit =)
What we have learned or been reminded of during this entire series is what worship is. Worship is simply thanking God for who He is. It’s that relational piece that focuses on who we know Him to be to us and to those that we love. We are able to use every moment of our lives to thank God for Him being a healer, protector, provider, keeper, mind regulator, fair judge, shield, and lover of our souls…We worship Him because He is able, reliable, long lasting, consistent, and a miracle worker even in the nastiest of situations. He is Sovereign and in His providential care He can do all things giving us the ability to do all things through Him.
I believe the ultimate act of worship is when we allow God to be who He says He is to us! To be exactly what we need Him to be in the very moment that we are in. The issue that we face as humans is that we think we need something
tangible, something visible, that we can hold, see, taste, exchange contact with to be the solutions to our voids. Our missing pieces.
The theme of last night’s service was withholding nothing and we focused on letting go of anything that was hindering our walk with Christ. Anything that was keeping us from letting Him be who He needed to be to us. This process of full surrender can be lengthy, a little costly, somewhat painful, but oh so worth it. What process of surrender needs to happen in your life today? What or who do you depend on to fill the empty places in your life? Who or what have you appointed to be what only God can be to you?
We want to take these people, these things and place them at the altar. We want to tell God that, we understand His mandate that we shall put no other gods before Him. We want to tell God that we may be afraid but we want His help to take these people, places, or things, in other words idols, off of the throne of our hearts and place them at His feet so that He and He alone can take His rightful place in our hearts.
We’ve put expectations on people that they will never be able to live up to. God’s job is not easy for us! God’s job is not for man to complete. Not only have you put expectations on them but you have put them in a place that God desires…when God wants something, He gets it, by any means necessary. Believe me when I tell you it is better to give these things up voluntarily instead of making Him do it for you! What do you need to release unto Him?
Is it a relationship, a job or hustle, is it weed, meth, crack, pills, alcohol, sex, throwing yourself into work, projects…whatever you are using to bring you a sense of peace and comfort that’s what He wants you to give to Him because our peace comes from God and it’s consistent. Think about what happens when the person in your relationship starts acting a fool, when your high comes all the way down, when the sex is over with, when a project is rejected or you lose your job…that peace and comfort, that stability and everything will be shaken. And because it’s no longer there you lose it. If we find contentment and peace in Christ, His promise to never leave us or forsake us tells us even when all the other stuff is gone, even when life is flipped upside down, your peace doesn’t have to be.
Put Him in rightful position in your life! Give Him His spot back…today we are withholding nothing! Get with Him and ask Him how. Guarantee you He’ll show you! My prayer is that you will have the courage to follow through!
