found that when people are agitating me I tend to take it out on the people closest to me. I’m almost 100% sure that I’m not the only one. Regardless, it’s not right!
One of the ways I’m learning I must deal with these tendencies to sin against the people I love the most and even the
television with a couple other children minding your own business. Then all of a sudden you hear your mom start complaining about trash bags that are full, dishes in the sink, you not entertaining all the younger kids, and not pulling your weight with the guests. She must have been irritated by the distraction of hosting. You automatically think, “wait this ain’t my party, I didn’t ask these people to come over, I don’t even know these kids like that! You volunteered yourself and house for this not me.” But you only think it because you are not ready for the pain that would ensue if you actually voiced it or let your facials make the statement for you!
in seniority my doubts about my ability continued as the cases became a little more complex. I was so grateful for my supervisor! (If you don't have a Sheri in your life, you should probably pray for yours to come). She was one of my greatest encouragers! Especially when I felt like I messed up and broke one of my kiddos.
What would you do if you had the opportunity to invite Jesus into your home? What would your focus be? Would it be to make sure that your home was fit for a king? Would it be to serve Him and make sure that He had everything He needed? Would it be to list all your complaints or to praise Him for what He had done? Would it be to sit down and listen to everything He had to say? What would you do first?
In this particular story we are introduced to Martha and her sister Mary. Jesus just came into their village and Martha willingly invited Jesus into her home. While I’m not sure what my first action would be if Jesus came into my house, Martha chose to serve but much to her detriment. While she was busy playing hostess she became distracted but her
So I scooped him up and held him super close to my chest. When I tell you he fought it's an understatement. After a couple left hooks and smooth jabs to my face I wrapped both arms around him tightly and jokingly said, "Boy, I know you're tired you just need to rest! Rest in Jesus kid. Rest in Jesus!" and it hit me…
We flock and pay for these experiences because it causes excitement, gets our adrenaline pumping, and can be just clean genuine fun. In general, it has no other purpose.
If I was to ask why it is easier to trust these roller coasters and their engineers and maintenance workers than it is to trust God, I’m sure the answer would be similar to:
“we can see and touch the roller coasters, we can’t see and touch God”.
We live by a show me and then I’ll believe type faith. Frankly this makes living a faith life led by an unseen
Stepping out...ok wait, leaping off cliffs of 'sense' into pits or waters of the unknown can be terrifying. But if God is telling you to jump you better show Him your faith. He'll be there to catch you. Whatever lesson needs to be learned will be learned. But how can you move forward standing still...Go ahead because all I hear God saying is, "show Me your faith by your works".
I’m leaping, how about you?
Ephesians 6:16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
When it feels like you're being attacked on all sides it's time to activate your faith. Activate your belief in what God has promised. If you believe that God will never leave you or forsake you then you will stop feeling so alone and will see the help He is sending you more clearly. Your faith can change your perspective and lead you to safer grounds!
If you believe that no weapon formed against you shall prosper then you will know that the "fiery darts of the wicked one" will cease and you will make it through in due season.
If you believe that God will grant you the desires of your heart and will provide all your needs according to His riches in glory then you will understand just because it looks like this right now doesn't mean that's the end all be all.
Activate your faith! Need more faith? Well like I said earlier this week in "It's what you hear" faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Get in that word ask for increased faith and fight the way you WILL win!
If faith is believing in the unseen, then how do we acquire it? The answer? By hearing.
Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Before many of us were saved we heard about God in some way whether it was negative or positive. The more we heard the more we sought. The faith that was needed to accept him as our personal Lord and Savior more than likely came from wanting to be apart of what we heard or how the written word spoke to our hearts.
As we grow in the faith our faith must also increase. This is done by hearing more about the word through sermons and testimonies but also by reading the word. The more we read the more we learn, grow, and begin to trust in what it says, especially when we apply it. And the word doesn't return to us void.
If you feel that you need an increase in your faith for whatever reason this can happen in a couple of easy steps:
1) Ask for an increase in faith (Luke 17:5)
2) Read the word (Romans 10:17b)
Hear the word, speak the word, live out the word, and watch your faith increase!
Tarry: to remain or stay, as in a place, to wait for; Sojourn: a temporary stay
Faith is so hard to live by because faith often involves waiting. Patience is a virtue not practiced by many.
Habakkuk 2:2-3: Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry.
Over the last 6 years I have had this non-profit idea in my heart. I have written the vision several times over the years. The number of times I've tried to start this up is the number of times that I've failed. I could have given up but I
