As I work in a new capacity I’m facing a different set of distractions and opposition than I’m accustomed to. Because of this I’m having a semi-difficult time pushing past certain things at certain times.
So how do I stay focused? My support system during this journey has been vital! If you are linked up with the wrong people or things they will hold you back. My supports help keep me on track, remind me of God’s promises, and pray me through the rough times. There is no way I could do this alone. I believe God reveals how to stay on path regardless of the type of opposition throughout the bible. So let’s look at Psalm 1:1-3 in regards to watching our circle.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly
1. Don’t walk in the counsel of those who reject God
I’ve had to be careful to filter out the opinions I get from both believers and nonbelievers. The more I hear “you can’t do that because of…” I become more aware they don’t work off the principle that I can do anything through Christ (Phil 4:13). While they may have great practical advice, that is usable, I cannot allow them to guide me in all things or I will remain stunted. We can’t be confined! Make sure there are people around you who have faith and some word in their heart. If no one like this came to mind, pray for God to show you who they are.
Nor stands in the path of sinners
2. You have to watch who you hang out with
I’ll start off with one fact: we all sin. However as we start our journey towards fulfilled purpose there are some things that we can no longer stand in or for. When I am really struggling with certain things I have to remove myself from them and people that continue to engage in them. Not because I am better or want to be mean but I know that my flesh is weak and I will more than likely fall deeper into that hindrance. While nothing separates us from God’s love, sin does cause us to separate from him making it difficult for us to hear clearly or be led by him. We can’t stand around those who may be unknowingly assisting in keeping us from hearing God and moving forward.
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful
3. Watch out for those who mock or show contempt for where you are going and the God you serve.
There are going to be people in your inner circle or family that may ridicule you for your faith and even tell you following God will get you nowhere, your faith is too big, that God can’t provide, or may feel that you are getting a bit too deep and ‘it doesn’t take all that’. Get up out that seat and encourage yourself! Pray for God to bring people in your life that can encourage you or better yet, ask him to show you who he has already placed in your life to do this and link back up with them. That link could be an important piece of you moving forward.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law he meditates day and night
4. You have GOT to spend time in the word and meditating on how it applies to you and your life.
It’s a must!
If you can manage to do 1-4 or at least begin to work on them you’re in the game and #Winning. The word says He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper
You are already blessed because of your faith. Stay focused by hooking up with people that can believe with you, remind you to pray and devote, encourage you, and stop you when you are in the wrong. BTW, when I say ‘people’ I don’t mean bring a million individuals into your camp. It might be just 1 or 2 and that is okay! You only need 2 or 3 people touching and agreeing ;) (Matthew 18:19-20)
God has given instructions and the benefits of following them. If you want to be planted firmly, bring forth fruit, bloom instead of wither, and prosper in whatever you do keep these things in mind and apply them. And please remember change is a process. Step by step, day by day.
