Happy July! Happy Monday! Happy 4th of July!
Look, it’s a new month and a new day. Do you know what that means?
God’s brand new mercies are available to us! Let me tell you how I know.
22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I hope in Him!”
25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,
To the soul who seeks Him.
26 It is good that one should hope and wait quietly
For the salvation of the Lord.
- Lamentations 3:22-26 NKJV
Today and the rest of this month, I just want you to remember
*Singing* “Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your naaaame. And they're always glad you caaame. You wanna be where you can see, our troubles are all the same. You wanna be where everybody knows your name”
Oh, singing the theme song to Cheers today is so befitting, I’ll tell you why =)
I stopped into my favorite neighborhood Starbucks early this morning and spent the day with them. (So much work to do) It's been a while since I've been here and so I was greeted with the question, “Where you been?” by several different baristas.
They checked in with me, they knew my usual, and they showed they cared even if they really didn't. Lol.
When I ordered something different than my norm they looked at me crazy and said, “What's wrong with you, what are you going thru, this ain't normal for you."
This is after a good six months of NOT coming to this particular location. No other Starbucks has taken the time to get to know me like this one. No matter how many times I've frequented.
Here's the point...True community, it always brings you back!
We are all looking for people to relate with, to trust, to share with even if we are consciously attempting to
And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Matthew 7:3 NKJV
In this season of my life one of the greatest lessons I have been taught have been on grace and humility. It has taught me to become less critical of others but it has also taught me that there is a thin line between that and compromise. That’s a whole different post. This morning verse three (our key verse) stood out to me because of how important introspection is. I’ve always been good at finding my faults and beating myself over the head with them. A pro actually! But at this point in my life I am learning to sit with God, look at my planks, hand them over to Him, and see how I can rid of them, and help others after I do without the shaming.
There is much that needs to happen as far as introspection goes. It doesn’t mean that I can’t see or discern when others
The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, And He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand.
Psalms 37:23-24 NKJV
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to fall into something but when it’s time to climb out it’s like the most hellish experience ever? Like something that literally took you 4 seconds to get into can leave you spending the next 60 years fixing! This can be with anything…loving someone, becoming addicted to something, making a poor business decision, shoot making any poor life decisions.
The Bible does say obedience is better than sacrifice and I thought I learned this lesson lol but I still find myself looking back at my own life thinking, “Jesus, when will I learn to be obedient so I don’t have to deal with the challenge of climbing out of all these painful pits!?” (1 Samuel 15:22)
Family, we have got to learn to watch our steps! We are literally walking straight into pits of addiction, despair, bondage, confusion, depression, anxiety, etc and getting stuck there! The problem most of us are facing is that we are
Meredith Porter has been working on her job for 4 months. She has always felt unqualified for the job and for that reason insecure in her abilities. However, she is starting to get into the flow of operations. Her office is a door away from Megan whom she’s become very close with. She is able to vent when necessary and receive help when she doesn’t want to bother the director, Mr. Grant.
Mr. Grant calls Meredith in for a meeting. She immediately rises from her desk and walks into his office. He sits behind a tall mahogany desk typing at his computer. He waves her in without refocusing his attention.
“Have a seat Ms. Porter”, he said finally looking from his computer screen. “Meredith, I need you to takeover the development team for the Community Social Project. We need new energy to pull it out of the slump it‘s in. It’s going to take a lot of work. You’re going to have to boost the morale of the existing team members as well. They are feeling defeated by all the recent loss and change. You can handle it though. Sue will have the details on your desk before lunch.”
Meredith thought, “how in the hell am I supposed to lead this team that has been established for years? How could he
Today’s post is for the person who is going through something internally. They have been doing a good job hiding the pain and/or emotions but they’re about ready to blow up on the next person who comes at them with anything that is not positive…
We all do it, smile on the outside while we deal with all kind of issues on the inside. You can only put on this front for so long before you start wishing you could throw everyone and their problems off a cliff and find someone who can be there for you.
One of the best things you can do for yourself in these overwhelming moments is take some time out for yourself. Spend some time reflecting on why your inner man and outer appearance aren’t matching. Sometimes you just have to be honest with certain people and let them know where you are. We have this false perception that we are super human and should be able to tend to the needs of everyone and our own 24/7. We can try, but it won’t last long and something/someone will suffer. Usually that someone is the very person trying to extend themselves so that others are happy—I’m talking about you.
People see what you let them see. If you don’t show that something is wrong, most people aren’t going to sense it. I’m not saying that you have to go out and tell the world you’re in a bad space but you do have permission to take some time for yourself and God. Let God speak to you and deal with those icky matters of the heart. You deserve to be ministered to as well! Moments of solitude and Sabbath days are necessary to avoid burn out and to pull yourself into a better space so that you can be of some good in all you do!
You have a close friend/mentor right? Let them know how you are feeling. Share that you need prayer, a hug, time away, a small break, tell them that you want to bash a head or two in, be honest and get all that stuff out. Then pray together and respond accordingly.
Vulnerability can lead to our greatest breakthroughs and most awesome moments of peace! Try it out. You deserve to let the feelings on the inside match the smile on the outside!
See you tomorrow? Awesome!

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
I Corinthians 10:13 NKJV
Last night in my Bible study class we ventured into the realm of real life application for one of our members. She is dealing with something that is causing her unrest in her spirit and although we discussed several things I wanted to share one particular part with you all today using our key Scripture for today as a basis.
Whenever we are going through anything that is causing strain in our lives 1 Corinthians 10:13 should be a source of comfort. Whenever temptation hits our personal worlds this Scripture should give us hope! In this context, the word
casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7 NKJV
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
1 Peter 5:7 NLT
If I could be honest, the last 16 hours of my life have been far less than stellar. Almost debilitating. It’s in moments like these that we must come to the throne room of our Heavenly Father and lay bare…naked before Him.
Our key Scripture for the day is one of my favorites. A couple of years ago I started using an activity called Cast Your Cares. Before starting our study we would write down everything bothering us, put it in an envelope, and cast them to Jesus so that we could properly receive Him that evening.
This activity is something that I have to constantly employ in my own life. Early this morning it was nothing different. I woke up from my very short sleep, short of breath because of the weight of my cares, teary eyed with the reality of life fighting against my faith, and just purely exhausted.
I pulled myself from bed and into a position to give my heart’s cries to my Father, the lover of my soul, my protector, my redeemer. I just so happened to write them out to Him because I couldn’t formulate the words any other way. This honesty with Him was something that had been lacking the last week as I tried to handle things myself and deal with these weights alone. As a result the words on my paper surprised me. The way I was feeling surprised me. The pain
Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.
Now I'm not one to be glued to a TV all day long BUT I will share that Nickelodeon, The Disney Channel, and HGTV have my heart when it comes to TV watching. It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve changed the channel from HGTV so I’m on renovation overload! In my head I can demo a room, plan a new lay out, decorate, and flip a house with ease. I also feel like I can guesstimate what houses are worth before and after renovations and pretty sure I can get someone to buy a house in just 3 sets of commercials.
Aside from being a renovating beast and learning all those things, HGTV has taught me a few things I just have to share with you to encourage you on this Jesus journey :) ready? Ok!
1) Expect some renovations to need complete demolition
Depending on the show you are watching some homes just need some cosmetic fixes while others need a complete overhaul to meet the homeowners needs and desires.
You may be in a season of your life where you are feeling completely gutted. Like everywhere you turn walls are being knocked down, drills are digging into the deepest depths of your feelings, and everything you once loved is being tossed into a giant dumpster. You have to remember that this is apart of the process. Some areas of your life may only need cosmetic fixes but there are other parts, those hidden places and even those that people know well, that must undergo a complete overhaul so that your foundation is rooted in God. With a firm foundation and removal of all past walls and issues that may hinder your walk in God you are free to walk into your next moment and receive everything that God has for you!
So if it seems like your life is falling apart remember sometimes demolition has to happen so renovation can occur. Expect for a restored, better than ever version of you to rise out of the heap.
2) Sometimes unexpected costs will come up
Homeowners surely become stressed out as they see their budget pushed to the limit. Unexpected expenses begin to rear their ugly heads. From mold to asbestos to faulty plumbing and foundation you never know what you’re going to get once you start removing the walls in this old house you’ve been living in.
It’s the same way for us as we go on this journey as a new creation in Christ. Here is the thing, God is fully
and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
Ephesians 4:23 NKJV
One thing I love about God is that He is always ready and willing to pull us back into Him, hit the reset button, and send us back on our way refreshed and restored. We just don’t take advantage of this benefit as often as we should!
We might be having a horrible day but if we are walking in faith we know that taking a few minutes to sit with the Father in prayer, Scripture, or silent meditation can reset everything we are feeling. Taking a few moments to think about God will reset our focus to know that He is greater than anything we are facing and that He will carry us through if we allow Him to. He will provide in the stressful moments of need. He will bring peace when the frustrations of life including our interactions with people are at an all time high. Let Him hit the reset button but we have to go to Him to do that.
We might be feeling hurt like we've never experienced before and have no clue how to handle it but if we are walking in faith we know that taking time with our Father can reset our thinking process. Here we are reminded that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5). We learn that He will heal the broken hearted (Psalm 147:3). We learn He will comfort those who mourn (Isaiah 61:2-3). We know that He will guard our hearts and minds…if we let Him (Philippians 4:7). Return to Him and let Him hit the reset button.
We might be feeling ashamed of decisions we've made or the actions we've taken part in but if we are walking in faith we know that taking a minute to return to the Father can reset everything we are feeling. The word tells us there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ (Romans 8:1)! Repentance brings about restoration. His grace applies to every situation. Rest in that! Let Him reset our yesterday (even if it was 10mins ago) and keep it pushing! We're still worthy of His love, we can still be used, and we're still gifted! We all fall short but God never does (Romans 3:23). Let Him pick you up!
Although our situations might remain the same we have to remember that when we lean on God the weight of what we are facing decreases. Not only because we've come to God but because we've trusted Him to help us carry the load.
So today if you are feeling weary, depressed, hurt, anxious, condemned, not good enough, unloved, or just have an attitude for good reason or no reason at all turn to God so He can hit the reset button for you and start you on your way anew. Do this as often as you need to at whatever point of the day you need to. The throne room of grace is open anytime we are in need (Hebrews 4:16)!
Do NOT forget to turn to God today! He's our first line of defense. The only one who can properly reset us. The only one who can properly protect us!
