Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. -Philippians 4:8 NKJV
Emotions can be a very good thing. They alert us about what is going on in our minds and bodies and assist us in knowing how to respond to the moments we are in.
The thing about emotions is that they can change constantly and often times our feelings or emotions don't match the reality of our situation. If we can use these emotions, positive and negative, to help us in our pursuit of drawing closer to Christ and resting in His truth (what the word says) we will find ourselves in healthier states of mind and in more control of our emotional wellbeing. This means we will make better decisions and live a more pleasant life.
If you’ve been feeling defeated, less than, and as if your mind has gone into attack mode against your Spirit and better judgment remember feelings are fickle and that right thinking can lead you back onto a better path where peace and the fullness of joy are prevalent.
Follow the instructions offered in Philippians 4:8 and you will begin to see everything else follow suit! At times this
takes extreme work, especially for those of us who are accustomed to focusing on and dwelling in negative emotions. But if you can be intentional in your thinking and remind yourself that:
Rest in your true identity child of God and allow God to guide your thoughts regardless of your situation that you may experience peace that surpasses all understanding at all times!
Have a blessed week!
