If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1-2
The more in line with God you become the greater the distractions seem to be. Sometimes they're so shiny and pretty we don't even care what they were sent for and embrace them with open arms. Other times they are so dark and gloomy they cause us to want to hide under a rock. Neither are good especially if they are keeping us from forward progress.
So with these distractions all around, the word for myself and for you today is “focus”. Focus is defined as "a central point, as of attraction, attention, or activity".
Today I challenge you and I to switch our attention from our many distractions/trials/whatever else to a few tasks God has given us to complete (Setting our minds on things above). The whole point would be to take things that cause us to be idle or hindered and remove them from our focus by refocusing our attention on completing a task that will move us forward.
This will take some work on our part. Two of the things that I have to employ daily are:
1. Thought stopping.
Meaning to literally stop ourselves from thinking about the thing tearing our attention from the work we must complete today. Capture every thought that leads you astray and replace it with God thoughts no matter how small or grand the negative thought may appear to be. (2 Corin 10:5)
Something I do is put away all my electronics for at least an hour a day unplugging from anyone or anything (like social media) that will cause me to become misdirected. [if you feel you can't go a whole hour start with 30mins] Plug into something positive and watch how different you will feel.
Focusing on the right things lead us closer to purpose and helps us to navigate out of our trials a little more smoothly. So let the to-do list God set for you today be your escape.
Let's move closer to purpose. Y'all pray for me as I pray for you because my focus is in struggle mode lol.
