It's officially the first of September. A new month with new mercies, new opportunities, new revelations, and new or continued reasons to serve and praise.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 states, “To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:” Verses 2-8 show the types of seasons that all people go through as we walk this Jesus journey. I don't know what type of season you're going through right now, but I want to encourage you to stay close to the unchanging hand of God.
If you are up, remember His faithfulness and give Him glory (Deut 8:18). If you are down, remember His faithfulness and give Him glory. Share your experiences with Him and cast your cares on Him, mainly because
He cares about hearing them (1 Peter 5:7). He is a consistent God, an ever present help in the time of trouble (Psalm 46:1).
Right now, the people in the path of Hurricane Harvey are in a down season.
With the loss of more than 30 lives, displacement of tens of thousands, the devastation of homes, businesses, places of worship, and entertainment it might be hard for them to find glimmers of hope.
We understand that biblically there is a time for seasons like this, but that there is also a season for them to build again! To laugh again, to see restoration again. I want to look towards that and help in any way I can for them to get to that point!
I've been debating how I wanted to help bring a glimmer of God's hope to the people of Texas and other areas that have been affected. Along with prayer, I've chosen to donate to the JJ Watt Foundation, through the crowdfunding page he set up through YouCaring.com.
We have already surpassed his initial goal of $200k and he has incrementally raised it to $10 million (at the time of writing this) as people from all over continue to stand together in support. This $10 million goal has also been reached ??! There are several disaster relief organizations we can give to but here are a few reasons I have chosen this donation method:
1) I love me some JJ Watt. His dancing keeps me happy, and when he's not injured, He plays football like a complete Boss! He was a regular on my fantasy football team in the past ?.
2) He's close to this. He's a member of the Houston Texans, an NFL team and he's mobilizing efforts to help his community. I can back this give back attitude.
3) He's givingfrequent updates on how, where, and when his Foundation will use the money with the help of the community and his teammates.
4) It’s what I feel led to do. =)
Again, there are so many ways to donate and give. It might be straight to the pockets of your family and friends affected, through a disaster relief organization, or by prayer and supplication.
Of course, do your own due diligence and be led by the Holy Spirit! This is just my avenue, and I wanted to share it with you all.
“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
Galatians 6:10 NKJV
For those of you reading this from the affected areas, you are being lifted up, and there are millions rallying to help your community. Find your reason to praise and don't lose it. God is with you, don't let go!
