All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify. I Corinthians 10:23 NKJV
We already know we can basically have anything we want! We can crave what we want and obtain what we want. The question is are these people, places, and things we want conducive to our growth? Are they detrimental to our physical, emotional, and spiritual lives? One thing about the conviction of the Holy Spirit is that it's not always harsh or loud and it's not condemning. So we often miss those gentle pushes for us to reroute. If there are quiet warnings that your desires are leading you down a dangerous road please listen.
Of course it's easy to get sucked into craving and indulging in those things that bring immediate relief even when we know they may not be the healthy thing we need. But the reality of the future consequences may not be worth it. Think about it from an eternal mindset and allow God to lead your desires back to safe ground.
Prayer: Lord, forgive me of everything I have placed before you! I pray that the desires of my heart become the desires you have for me. Today I choose you over (fill in the blank) but I will need your strength, wisdom, and peace to do without the contentment and immediate gratification it brings. Please pick me up with your grace if I so happen to stumble but my desire in this moment is to please you. Help me to do that. Fill every void with all of you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
