"And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the wine would burst the wineskins, and the wine and the skins would both be lost. New wine calls for new wineskins."
Mark 2:22 NLT
So, yesterday I spent a majority of the evening packing up items for donation. I can admit that this task of letting things go is one that's a bit difficult for me.
If you ask people close to me, they would probably note me as having hoarder tendencies. I won’t go as far as to claim that, I’ll just say I overstock things on occasion lol.
Either way, the donation truck will be stopping by the house in a couple of days, and I wanted to have some good quality stuff for them to take with them.
My closet was overflowing with literally no room to put any of my new clothes that I wear most often. There's no reason that I should be fishing new and clean clothes out of baskets because there's no room in my closet. No reason at all!
As I emptied the shelves, my heart hurt a little bit. I thought, “What if I’ll be able to fit this stuff again” or, “What if I’ll need this?”
Hear me clear; I understand the importance of giving,
especially to those who are in need and especially since I have excess. But a lot of my things have value in my eyes, and other things give me a false sense of security making this necessary process more difficult for me.
The shelves are now underwhelmed with spaces of nothingness, which is a relief to my closet and my sanity. I don’t see lack or loss, but ample opportunity for God to bless me with anything I may need in this season if anything at all. Not only that but with space to breathe and move around more freely.
Today I want to remind you to make room.
Sometimes in order to get filled back up with the right things you have to be willing to empty yourself of the things that no longer serve a purpose in that particular season. Whether that’s ridding of it completely or storing it appropriately so God can give you everything you need for this moment.
Make room for whatever shift is happening in your life. It could be mental, geographical, a shift in your ministry, spiritual outlook, or a level up in any aspect of your life. You have to make room for new wine because God does not want to put new wine in old wine skins. Or as the NLT version of the Bible puts it, “…new wine must be put into new wineskins.” (Mark 2:22). Let Him do a new thing in a clean space, mind, body, spirit, and in the natural!
If God is calling you to make a sacrifice in any area whether it's leaving more time for Him by giving up something that's been consuming all your time, cleaning out your closet, or taking away one of your negative thoughts and replacing it with Scripture (2 Corinthians 10:5), do it!
Make room for new wine. Make room for the new that you are going to need in this season! Make room for the good stuff hiding under the piles of unnecessary stuff to be seen again! It will be worth it!
Have a blessed and prosperous week and rest of your month!
