And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42 NKJV
Upon opening your eyes was your first thought, “I have so much to do today”? I know mine was. The thought of all I have to accomplish today mixed with my lack of desire and low expectations of others pulling their weight made me feel instantly exhausted and weighed down. I thought about my long list of to dos created the night before and pulled my covers over my head and dread for the day slowly crept in.
As I laid their unable to force myself back to sleep I realized that this was a horrible way for a child of God to start their day. I noticed that I was planning to be like Martha with much serving but needed to purpose myself to be like Mary and sit at the feet of Jesus for a moment and get my attitude together!
So here are a few attitude shifts I needed to make to ensure that I do what I can to get the best out of my day!
1. Praise God
I didn't speak to the One who gave me life. Instead I allowed my thoughts to go straight into negativity mode. Acts 17:28 says, that it's in Him that we live, move, and have our being. The fact I woke up without an alarm, able to think,
and shift around in my bed on my own should have been enough for at least a, "Thank you for waking me up Lord". Hard starts can lead to hard days. It can truly help when you wake up and get in the habit of praising God for what He's doing in your life!
2. Remember God is not a thing to do
Granted time with God was a high priority on that loooong things to do list BUT I always have to remind myself He's not a thing to do. He's my creator, my guide, my way maker, the one who knows my coming and going, the one who knows what's going to happen before it happens, the one who asks me to lean and acknowledged Him in all my ways. We cannot limit Him to a check box. Take time to make God apart of your life and not a thing to do in your life! That leads me to #3
3. Give Him your list
When our plans and schedule are super tight and overwhelming it's a good idea to give God the list. You can do this by praying and asking God to only allow what He desires to be accomplished today to be accomplished. Ask for wisdom and for Him to direct your path and then make sure not to freak out if people start to cancel and certain things remained unchecked. Let Him work. Let Him lead. He has a way of planning your day where your use of time is maximized and you and everything you touch will be fulfilled.
4. Smile and start speaking life over your day
The best way to overcome a negative mindset is to shift to a positive one and we have total control over that! The Bible tells us to capture every thought and put it under subjection to Christ (2Corin 10:5). So speak life!
Today will be a productively great day! I'm a child of God I can't wait to see Him work in my life today! I'm above and not beneath. I'm the head not the tail. I'm a lender not a borrower. I'm at peace and will have a peaceful day!
5. Repeat every step all day long
Sometimes we need constant reminders. Life is real and is very attention seeking lol. Be intentional in staying connected with God so you don't fall to pieces :)
Have a great day!
