I often say I ain’t nobodies ride or die nothing. Just ask my ex-boyfriend lol. I like my life and my freedom and usually people who ask you to be their ROD are the ones who stay making stupid decisions and want someone to go down with them or for them. Nah, I’m good. There is no one that can make the kind of ride or die lifestyle people frequently talk about sound cool to me. [Side note, I’m not referring to instances like a parent’s love, having a friends back as they go thru, sticking thru tough times with a mate etc I'm talking about foolery and things that produce anything but life]
My question today is simple, what are you ridin’ or dyin’ for? Think about all the things and people you go hard for, whether it is related to the church or not…
• Significant other
• The turn up
• The job you love
• Talent and dreams
• Whatever else may occupy your thoughts and time
We ride for a lot of things, we even put ourselves in positions that show we’re willing to die for those things and people. Now ask yourself a question…would those things ride or die for you? Are you pouring too much of you into people, places, or things that will never pour back into you? That’s how we become depleted and no good to ourselves or anyone else.
If you find yourself surrounded by people or things that are riding you into depression, anxiety, debt, deeper into addiction, exhaustion or causing you to die to your true self, self worth, integrity, abilities, mental stability, ability to love, or literally your physical health—you need to take a step back and ask yourself if it’s worth it? I pray that the answer you give leads you to freedom.
