found that when people are agitating me I tend to take it out on the people closest to me. I’m almost 100% sure that I’m not the only one. Regardless, it’s not right!
One of the ways I’m learning I must deal with these tendencies to sin against the people I love the most and even the
people who have triggered my anger, pride, impatience, and at times past outbursts of wrath is to immediately deal with the situation. Also known as, choosing to put on the ways of Christ and try to respond just as He would.
I can immediately choose to put on tender mercies just as God would do for me when I don’t deserve it.
I can choose to put on patience and not immediately desire to beat the brakes off of someone, or go back and talk about them to someone else, or go home and cry and beat myself up as I internalize and wallow in whatever they have said or done to me.
I can choose to put on forgiveness and let what the person has said or done go. If I can learn to see things from a spiritual perspective and not an earthly one I start to recognize tricks of the enemy that are designed to get me to forfeit my future. Think about all the times you were acting a mess and caused others to feel some kind of way. Think about all the times we have made God feel some kind of way. Our faith is based on forgiveness. We are not exempt.
So why do you have to be the bigger person? The answer is simple…because you’re the elect of God. Get it together and act like it!
